K-Pop Review: Pandora by KARA
KARA made their comeback with mini album, Pandora, and with their new title track the girls introduced to fans a new more adult and sexy image.

PandoraI like this song, it isn't bad at all really, my problem is that it's just not original. "Pandora" reminds me a lot of "점핑 (Jumping)," "루팡 (Lupin)," and even their Japanese song, "Speed Up," plus the concept of this video doesn't stray too far from what we've seen with those songs.
As for the video, what can I say? It wasn't a bad MV, there was nothing outrageous, and bad. It was a just a pretty typical music video, and reminds me of f(x)'s "Electric Shock" MV.
What I loved about "Pandora" is the transformations of some of the members. Nicole has always had the sexy image going, but I think youngest, Kang Jiyoung has grown up a bit with this album, as well as Goo Hara who really turned up the sexy.
However, something I noticed while watching this video was that Park Gyuri, and Han Seungyeon kind of faded to the background, I didn't see nearly as much of them as I did of Nicole, Goo Hara, and Kang Jiyoung. I know there will always be a 'golden member' in groups, but this is pretty small group, and equal line distribution isn't hard to do. I really feel like that was happening when I noticed Park Gyuri, the group leader, and lead singer seemed to have less lines than usual.
The Album
As an album, Pandora is one of the worst of this year for two reasons. First, the album as a whole made no sense. They release Pandora and the song, and video is strong, intense, bright, and sexed up, but then I listen to the other tracks, and they're cutesy corny, and full of 'aegyo singing.' "Way," "Idiot," and "그리운 날엔 (Miss U)" sound no different than the other non-title tracks from past albums. To make this a cohesive album the songs could have at least been of similar genres.Second, the quality of the songs were really...blah. "Pandora" is obviously where the effort went on this album. Like I said before the other tracks are nothing different from what we've heard from KARA in the past, and really just sound like fillers for the album.
Wrap Up
KARA is just not showing as much strength in their Korean promotions, and "Pandora" proves it. I can't like this ALBUM, and give it high marks when it's suffering so much from "title syndrome." This was a flop for KARA and not anything memorable, especially when compared to their past hits.http://www.kpopstarz.com/articles/14246/20120918/kara-taiwan-mobile-chart-k-pop.htm

KARA tops Taiwan Mobile’s caller tune chart with “PANDORA”
KARA swept up the #1 spot on a Taiwanese mobile chart prior to their album’s official release in Taiwan.
According to DSP Media on the 18th, KARA’s latest track, “PANDORA“, has reached the #1 spot for being the most downloaded caller tune (the song that people hear when they call another person) recently on Taiwan Mobile, despite not having released the physical album for sale in the country yet.
Taiwanese music representatives revealed, “After KARA’s album is officially released [in Taiwan], it is predicted that they will continue to land on more music charts”, increasing anticipation for the group’s official offline release on the 28th in Taiwan.
